Time to Improve Manukau Council Communication

Time to Improve Council Communication

After knocking on 30,000 doors across this city it is very clear that there continues to be a communication breakdown between our community and its Council. I am committed to addressing this.

We are going to have a Mayoral meeting every week in different parts of the City. These will be open meetings, an opportunity for you to bring your point of view directly to the table and to be heard. We will build a culture where you can engage your Council and they will listen to you and the issues you raise. We will also build a culture of your Council taking action.

I am going to go on-line so that communication is more direct to all who are on email. Also I commit to replying to those who communicate with me.

I will continue my current practice of sending out an email letter to the city and I intend to use web cam to introduce an on-line address to the city once a week.

The Annual Planning Process needs to be opened up. We are going to get better at consulting as a Council and there needs to be a stronger citizen’s voice in the process. I intend to open up the way we do annual planning and make it more user friendly, accessible, transparent and accountable.

The Council under my leadership will be more visible, active and will listen to you, the community.
