Entries open for Cycle Science Hutt City Tri
Entries have opened for the Cycle Science Hutt City Triathlon (formerly the Naenae Triathlon) with the event set for Sunday 28 October at Naenae Pool in Lower Hutt.
The 4km run, 18km cycle and 300m swim is an ideal opportunity for those who want to get back into shape for summer and to give triathlon a go. The event also provides a challenge as a season starter for the more serious athlete who is training to compete in bigger events.
The friendly, safe event is open to anyone aged 12 years and up and offers individual and team entry options, including an option specifically for school students. The Matt Dryden Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the 1st place winner in the 12 -15 age group category.
“The Cycle Science Hutt City Triathlon is perfect for people wanting to try their hand at triathlon and attracts people of all shapes, sizes and abilities. The main emphasis is on getting physically active and having fun” says Duncan Chisholm, Hutt City Council’s Recreation & Events Manager.
Local cycle-shop Cycle Science has again thrown its support behind the event and come on board as naming rights sponsor and has put an AZZURRI road bike valued at $1,799 up for grabs as the major spot prize.

As an added incentive, entries received
before 1 October go into the draw to win a 3 month
membership at Lifestyle Health & Fitness and a training pack
valued at over $450.
Need to get into shape?
Leisure Active in conjunction with Fitness Goals Ltd have developed a six-week training plan to assist those who may need a little help in get fit for the Cycle Science Hutt City Tri.
A Triathlon Training Seminar is also scheduled for Tuesday 11 September, 6pm – 7:30pm at Naenae Pool and will cover topics such as the principles behind training, equipment, transitions, nutrition, and injury prevention. The seminar is $5 per person. Participants can register when they enter the Cycle Science Hutt City Tri or at any Cycle Science Store.
For those who would like to improve their cycling fitness, Lifestyle Health & Fitness in Lower Hutt are offering an Intro Spin Class on Wednesday 12 September, 7pm – 7:50pm for only $8 per person (normally $17.50) Spin is an indoor cycling-to-music class designed to increase fitness and lower body strength while stimulating fat burning and toning of muscles. Spin is suitable for all fitness levels.
