Dance and Art collide at City Gallery

City Gallery Wellington is thrilled to be hosting a dance premiere during this year’s Wellington Dance Your Socks Off Festival. Sukinature, choreographed and performed by Juliet Shelley, will be at 2pm on September 15th and 16th. The performance is part of a season of public programmes planned around the Gallery’s latest exhibitions: Te Huringa/Turning Points: Pakeha Colonisation and Maori Empowerment; Denis O’Connor: What the Roof Dreamt and Contemporary Projects: Areta Wilkinso/Eve Armstrong/ Darryn George/Sarah Jane Parton
“It’s always exciting to bring new audiences into the Gallery”, says Debbie Martin, City Gallery’s Manager of Education & Public Programmes, “We are really looking forward to seeing Juliet’s evocative solo dance take place alongside of our current exhibitions.”
Juliet Shelley is the founder and director of MMMDance and Pineapple Productions. She has taught and performed in the UK, Holland, NZ, USA and Australia. She was a dancer with Jointwork Dance Group (UK) from 1987- 1991 and is also a fully qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique and Pilates Matwork. Born in Tanzania, she moved to New Zealand in 1994 and has been working freelance ever since.
Pineapple Productions projects have included: The Changing Room, 2003,Te Whaea Studio Theatre; Roll Baby Rol, 2003, Wellington Performing Arts Centre; Magpie Music Dance Company 2004, Te Whaea Theatre and TAPAC, Auckland; Libella Fa 2004, Bats Theatre; Glimpse 2005, Bats Theatre; Sensomotion 2005 and 2006, Webb Street Studios, Wellington and The Seeds of Love 2006 at Bats Theatre.
