Student City Arts Week is back !!!
Following on from last year’s inaugural festival Student City Arts Week II is taking place in Palmerston North from 17th – 23rd September.
The festival, which features a huge range of events, is aimed at the whole community with the goal of getting as many people involved as possible.
Some of the highlights of the week will be a production of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes by MUDS (Massey University Drama Society) at the Globe Theatre, an exhibition of NZIPP (NZ Institute of Professional Photography) Silver and Bronze medal winning photography from UCOL at Square Edge and a series of 10 free workshops covering topics as diverse as Hip Hop dancing and bookbinding. There are also a number of events for those who like to party with Amnesty’s Black Night Concert on Thursday 20th, featuring Natasha and The MC Band and UCOL’s “One Night in Vegas” Ball on Saturday featuring DJ Severe, Wayne Anderson & Smokey Feel, both of which take place at Bar Mode.
Organiser Eimear Clowry from Massey University said, “We’re really excited about this year’s line up. Last year’s event was really successful and it looks like the festival is set to keep growing year on year.”
Student City Coordinator Kevin Delaney is delighted that the Student City message is really starting to get through, “We’re excited to have so much that the whole city can get involved in, from small kids who can take part in the recycled art competition, teenagers who will really enjoy the Hip Hop workshop and photographic scavenger hunt, to those that will take advantage of one of Square Edge’s lunchtime workshops to learn something new. Student City is about the whole city embracing the energy and diversity that the tertiary students bring to Palmy and this week will really bring that to the fore.”
The festival which incorporates over 30 events in 5 venues launches at Square Edge on Monday 17th and runs right through until Sunday 23rd. The full timetable is online on www.studentcity.co.nz and will be printed in the local press over the next week
Student City Arts Week is supported by Creative Communities New Zealand, Palmerston North Community Arts Council, Square Edge, Palmerston North City Library and Student City.
