Councillor Neil Morrison
Councillor Neil Morrison
20 September 2007
I was greatly saddened to hear of the death of Councillor Neil Morrison of Manukau City Council, who passed away yesterday following a stroke. His family were with him and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Gabrielle and their children.
Neil was a very effective councillor for Manukau over a long period, and was first elected in 1989. He was a strong advocate for the people of Manukau as councillor for Pakuranga and as chair of Manukau City Council’s Economic Development Committee.
In previous terms he had also chaired the Economic Development and Corporate Business committees.
He carried out his role as regional chair of the Civil Defence Emergency Management Group very successfully, demonstrating clear leadership in this important role.
The first meeting of the Emergency Management Group Committee was held on 18 February 2000 and Neil had been the committee chair since then. He was a dedicated servant for Manukau City and for the region. He will be greatly missed.
