Mt Ida submissions released

Public submissions on a review of former pastoral occupation licence land on the Mt Ida Range near Ranfurly in Central Otago have been released today by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).

A preliminary analysis of the 232 submissions received on the review has also been released, said LINZ General Manager Business Support Brian Usherwood.

The preliminary proposal for the future of the land recommended that all 8401 hectares of land under review, known as the Mt Ida Syndicate, be retained in full Crown ownership and control as a conservation area.

Mr Usherwood said the preliminary analysis of submissions identifies the different points raised by the public and determines which points fall under Part 3 of the Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 and can be allowed for further consideration.

"Consultation has begun with the Department of Conservation on the points allowed for consideration.  LINZ will then do a final analysis of the submissions and prepare a substantive (final) proposal."

Mr Usherwood said a final decision on the future of the property will be made by the Commissioner of Crown Lands. In the meantime the Mt Ida Syndicate licensees can occupy and use the land until a decision is made.

The Mt Ida public submissions and preliminary analysis are available on LINZ's website http://www.linz.govt.nz/core/crownproperty/highcountry/reviewofotherland/mtida/index.html
