Transport groups release election candidate ratings
A coalition of Auckland-based transport groups has released the results of its comprehensive survey of local body election candidates in the Auckland Region.
"We are very pleased with the response to this survey," said survey organiser, Michael Tritt, "We've been able to contact the majority of the candidates, and the majority of those contacted have responded".
Candidates have been assigned a colour-coded "rating" depending on their commitment to public transport and sustainability.
"Transport is consistently identified as the big issue at local body election time, but most voters know little about candidates' positions on transport," said Mr Tritt "We hope this survey will help address that, and that Aucklanders will use it".
Mr Tritt also urged Aucklanders to vote "We think it's important that people engage in the democratic process, so I'd urge all those who haven't voted to send their voting papers in promptly - after checking out our survey results first, of course".
FAST's searchable online database allows voters to view the ratings and actual responses of the City Council, Regional Council and Mayor Candidates for their area. The website address is www.fast.gen.nz
