Susan Wood's North Shore appointment inappropriate
The Newmarket Business Association has lashed out at the appointment of Susan Wood as general manager of the Takapuna Beach Business Association, saying it is inappropriate for the Mayoress to be employed in such a key role.
"We couldn't fathom why there was so much excitement about this appointment until we put two and two together and realised that this woman must be the wife of North Shore City Mayor George Wood. If that is indeed the case, such an appointment is nepotism at its worse," says Cameron Brewer, general manager of the Newmarket Business Association.
"Everyone in Takapuna may be thrilled to get such a high profile person as the Mayoress, but it is simply not appropriate particularly during a local body election. Mayor George Wood is obviously behind in the polls to pull out this stunt at the 11th hour.
"The Takapuna Beach Business Association has dropped the ball on this occasion. If they wanted someone really high profile it would have made more sense for them to appoint a New Zealand known celebrity with no local mayoral connection. That would have been a real coup," says Mr Brewer.
