Nuffield Street, Newmarket, Dances with the Sounds of Christmas

The Nuffield Street food, fashion and lifestyle precinct in Newmarket is offering shoppers more than retail therapy bringing dancing to the streets in a unique sound, light and motion installation to celebrate the festive season.
Hundreds and hundreds of dancing, tinkling, whimsical chimes are hanging high above the tree-lined street and from noon till 4:00pm every Saturday from now until Christmas the ‘Sounds of Christmas’ welcomes a cast of fanciful characters and dancers to entertain shoppers and diners with their own distinct performances along the street and in shop windows.
The cast includes the dazzling mirage in frothy green and gold of The Six Foot Xmas Fairy, white faced singing shepherdesses Aria and Taryn, better known as the Sopranos, Salsa dancers, Hip Hoppers, dancing Xmas Baubles in red and gold and highly flexible Bubble Girls.
Well known choreographer Mary-Jane O’Reilly is directing the performances.
“The aim is to create a gorgeous street canvas filled with dance, movement and sound,” she says. “Performers are chosen because they are ‘outside the square’ and can bring something a little different to the theatre of the street. They all have great song, dance and improvisational skills that can surpass any practical challenges of performing in the street environment or in shop windows and they will transport shoppers into another world.”
There is also an enticing array of special offers and deals from participating Nuffield Street retailers for the consummate shopping experience.
