Teen Winched From Bush After Fall
Teen Winched From Bush After Fall
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter rescued an injured teen from bush in the Marlborough Sounds earlier this evening.
The 16 year old Balclutha girl was injured in a fall late this afternoon. She was part of a school group on a multi day tramping trip.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard was called to the scene about 7:30 pm.
"Apparently the teen hit her head when she fell while walking on a track" said Dave Greenberg, Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman. "The people with her looked after her very well and also gave an exact GPS location which made locating them easy".
Once winched down to the girl our Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic did a quick medical assessment and then the pair were winched back into the helicopter.
The girl was transported to Wellington Hospital where she is currently being assessed and treated for the possibility of a concussion.
