Fun and Wellness Day in the Bay

Fun and Wellness Day in the Bay

‘New experiences’ is the theme for the 2008 Well Child Tamariki Ora Week and Tauranga’s Well Child Coalition have organised just that for families. On Friday March 7, from 9am to 1pm, there will be a free fun and wellness day at the QE2 centre in Tauranga.

For many parents who lack local family support raising children can seem a burden and be very tiring so Well Child Week aims to introduce parents to the wider community support that is available.

Well Child Tamariki Ora Week celebrates children and parenting and is an annual event. Hosted by Tauranga’s Toi tu Te Whanau Coalition this event attracted over 500 people last year. Organiser Tracy Johnson from Te Manu Toroa is expecting an even higher attendance this year with the increased number of activities and parent resources that will be available on the day.

Ms Johnson says, “The fun and wellness day will offer a host of activities that will introduce children and babies to new experiences and there will be valuable information and resources for parents about child wellness. We encourage families to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy what Memorial Park has to offer.”

There will be around 30 stallholders that will range from toy library, swimming lessons, car seat hire and cotton nappies, to immunization, hearing, asthma and autism organizations. There will be story telling, gym activities, preschooler’s hip hop and Kapa Haka demonstrations. Reuben the road safety bear will also be paying a visit.
