A man has been killed after a truck and
train collided at Orari, north of Timaru.
Police were called to the scene at 11.50am today at the intersection of Hawke Road and Reilly Road.
The train derailed as it collided with the truck but it is unclear as to whether the dead man was the driver of the truck or on the train.
The truck was carrying cattle, many of which were killed as a result of the crash.
Hawke Road has been closed and diversions put in place while police investigate the scene.
Police will not identify the deceased until the family have been informed.
