HISTORIC TOURING CARS TO RACE AT TERETONGA

MEDIA RELEASE

Historic Touring Cars To Race At Teretonga

Next year's Classic SpeedFest at Teretonga Park will play host to an exciting new category - Historic Touring Cars.

The class is the brainchild of Invercargill based Rick Michels of Evolution Motorsport who is seeking expressions of interest from owners of suitable cars for the class. "We are seeking cars dating from the early 1980's to around 1998 but we will look at cars from outside that era as individual cases," said Michels recently. "The class would suit cars from the British, German, New Zealand and Australian Touring Car Championships from that period," he added. "The cars would receive a minimum of three to four races at the event which is currently scheduled for 21/22 February 2009, a date that will be confirmed within the next month. There will also be races for the cars at Timaru International Motor Raceway the previous weekend allowing competitors plenty of racing over a period of one week."

Michels is also currently in the midst of some very positive discussions with some well known overseas drivers of the era which could see them competing in their original cars.

The Classic SpeedFest is one of the most popular meetings on the calendar each year at the fast, flowing 2.6 kilometre Teretonga Park circuit on the outskirts of Invercargill. The race meeting features a friendly atmosphere and is accompanied by an official dinner and prizegiving for competitors during the weekend.

Michels has already had much interest from owners of suitable vehicles and welcomes further expressions of interest either via e-mail at ramichels[at]xtra.co.nz or by phone -
