One year on and D2P is making excellent progress

It is one year since work started on the SH2 Dowse to Petone Upgrade project (D2P) and excellent progress is being made.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Regional Manager Graham Taylor says that despite some dreadful weather conditions recently the project is still on target with many major milestones already reached.

“We are delighted with the project’s achievements so far,” he says. “Within the past twelve months the D2P team have made significant progress on all five of the new structures over SH2.”

Mr Taylor says during this time there have been several temporary shifts in the state highway lane positions but the first permanent shift is expected within a few days.

“As soon as the weather allows us to lay pavement under the Dowse Interchange, one lane of northbound motorists will be on a section of the permanent new SH2 alignment for the first time.”

Mr Taylor adds that one of the particularly successful aspects of the project is the team’s ability to carry out the necessary construction work with minimal effect on road users.

“Keeping traffic moving on this busy section of state highway is a priority and a great deal of time is put in to the traffic management plans for the project,” he says.

The D2P project remains on target for its scheduled completion in early 2010 with the new Dowse Interchange expected to be open early next year.
