Earthquake Strikes Napier/Hastings Damage Reported
Hastings earthquake
An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 occurred at 23:25 near Hastings today. Damage has been reported, with details yet to be confirmed.
Some damage has been reported such as items falling off shelves but further details are not yet confirmed.
The Director of the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management, John Hamilton, said that the National Crisis Management Centre has not been activated however the Duty Team is monitoring the situation and will coordinate Central Government response if required.
Hastings Civil Defence have activated its emergency plan and is working to provide a response to the earthquake.
