Private Investigators tackle Taggers in Manukau

Manukau City Portfolio Leader for Community Safety Cr Dick Quax is praising the private investigators that the Council contracts to deal with graffiti vandalism in the city.

Cr Quax says, “Tagging is a million dollar plus problem in our city and our investigators, working closely with the police and the Manukau Beautification Trust, are having an impact not only on tagging but other crimes that taggers are involved in”.

During a recent covert camera surveillance operation run by council’s private investigators to catch taggers, a car was identified as having been used in recent burglaries and that the occupants were wanted by the Manurewa Police.

With the information supplied by the investigators a warrant was executed and a man has been charged with burglary and another offender – a known tagger is being sought by Manurewa Police.

“From the reports that I receive it is quite clear that those involved in tagging are also involved in all sorts of criminal activity ranging from wilful damage of council’s sports facilities through to serious assaults” said Cr Quax.
