AucklandCo-Op Taxi Society training for the future

Auckland Co-op Taxi Society passengers can expect even greater levels of customer service thanks to a three-year driver training partnership with Tranzqual ITO signed today.

The taxi company – New Zealand's largest with more than 1100 drivers in the Auckland region – view the workplace training agreement as an investment in the skill and knowledge of their driving force that will help them deliver the highest quality service for customers.

Auckland Co-op Taxis general manager Barrie White says he is delighted to formalise the agreement today with Tranzqual CEO Wayne Smith.

"Our drivers will only benefit by being more experienced and that means the customer will get more out of travelling with us," Mr White said.

"We are keen to expose our staff to quality training and invest in their career development so we can provide the best service possible," he said.

By undertaking nationally recognised qualifications drivers will be able to improve the knowledge and skills they use on the job from day-to-day, he said.

Tranzqual ITO provides world class industry training standards for the road transport, warehousing and logistics sectors, passenger services and ports and stevedoring industries.

Tranzqual ITO chief executive Wayne Smith said there were many positives for Auckland Co-op Taxis in entering the training agreement.

The agreement will deliver qualifications recognised by industry as adding value, creating career pathways and serving industry needs, Mr Smith said.

"We know that companies that invest in their workforce reap 5 -20 per cent bottom line productivity gains over those that don't," he said.

"Research tells us that productivity success in turn feeds on itself in many positive ways. Skilled people are innovative workers and have better safety records and this can only be good news for the paying customer."
