Rodney Mayor Penny Webster to Chair Regional Mayoral Forum
Penny Webster, Rodney District Mayor has been unanimously voted in as the next Chairperson of the Auckland Regional Mayoral Forum.
The appointment was made at a Regional Forum Meeting in late November.
Mayor Webster will chair the Forum for the next 12 months and her appointment comes at a crucial period for local government in the Auckland region.
“Over the next year, the future shape of local government in our region will become clear and I will be working with the Regional Forum to try to achieve the best outcome for all people in the wider Auckland region,” she says.
“With the recent general election there is also a fantastic opportunity for us to work regionally with the new Government and with the new Minister of Local Government.
“I look forward to leading and developing this relationship to help make much needed improvements to our region’s infrastructure.”
Mrs Webster says that too often in the past, Governments have imposed changes to legislation without considering the full impact on local government and ratepayers.
“Our councils represent a third of the country’s population and we want to form a close working relationship with the Government to ensure the region continues as the economic powerhouse and world leading hub the rest of New Zealand needs and desires,” she added.
