Have a safe and happy Christmas
With the festive season upon us the Auckland Region Emergency Management Office would like to remind Aucklanders to make a start now to be better prepared. Throughout the year, events around the world and here in New Zealand have raised awareness of the impact that disasters can have, and the need to take action to look after ourselves, and our families. Many Aucklanders will be going away for the Christmas break to other destinations around New Zealand where the risks and impacts from hazards differ to those in Auckland, therefore people need to be aware of the possible threats from both natural and man-made hazards.
People
should plan ahead and have:
• an emergency survival kit
(e.g. radio and batteries, torch, water - 3 litres per
person/day, and food)
• a getaway kit (e.g. blankets,
clothing)
• hazards to consider and how to avoid them
• identifying key contacts, a family meeting place,
and who is responsible for what items
Have a safe and happy Christmas
