Mayor welcomes Government’s plans for small business

Rodney District Mayor Penny Webster has welcomed the small business relief package announced by Prime Minster John Key yesterday.

“The package offers the kind of assistance small business groups – such as Destination Orewa Beach – and others in the Rodney region need to help them ride out the current challenging economic times,” Mrs Webster said.

“Small businesses need measures that will lessen compliance costs and improve their ability to keep operating. This package will help to do this,” she added.

Mrs Webster said the Government’s moves to assist small businesses by reducing tax impacts on cash flows, improving access to credit and cutting compliance costs will benefit Rodney.

“Our district is dominated by small businesses – be it in the tourism, retail, service or farming sectors – and any help they can get will mean jobs and economic activity staying in Rodney,” she explained.

“It is pleasing that the Government recognises that lightening the load on small and medium business. This will help kick start the engine of New Zealand’s economy for all of our benefit.”

Mrs Webster added that it was also important for Rodney residents to support local businesses.

“By shopping locally, it will help to keep local businesses and jobs in the Rodney district.”
