How Porirua Responds To The Recession

How Porirua Responds To The
Recession
It is obvious that government is not going to do much to assist those hit by the recession. As usual we are on our own. Each business, and each family, must consider its situation.
Porirua people are positive, smart, and innovative. They work well together and naturally support each other. We need to respond to the recession the way we respond to challenges in sport.
The city council could provide the leadership needed to mobilise the city.
As a first practical step, I propose a Porirua Community Economic Development Conference.
This would bring people together to work on how we can together respond to the impending crisis. Any practical assistance to businesses and families is more likely to come from the local, community level than from central government.
Such a conference could build on the national conference and focus on education, community projects, and the generation of business and work. It could be a platform to seek support from central government.
I made this suggestion at Council and now
seek support for
it.
