Injured Tramper Rescued
The Wellington Based Westpac
Rescue Helicopter was called today 28/3/09 at
5pm to
tramper near the Kapakapanui Ridge which is East of
Waikanae. The
39yr old tramper from Marton had fallen and
injured her ankle and was unable
to tramp out.
The
Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Paramedic
onboard
responded to the scene. Two other Wellington Free
Paramedics had walk for an
hour into the patients
location and were able to guide the Helicopter to
their
location via radio. As there was no place to land near the
patient the
paramedic was winched down into a clearing.
The patient with the help of the
paramedics were able to
carry the patient down to the clearing to be winched
back
into the Helicopter.
The patient was flown back to
Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where
she is
being treated for the injured
ankle.
