Fish & Chip Explosion Victim Flown to Wellington by Life Flight Air Ambulance

The Wellington-based Life Flight Air Ambulance landed at Wellington Airport just after 6pm with a seriously injured burns victim from Nelson.

The Life Flight Air Ambulance, with a specialist flight doctor and nurse from the Wellington Hospital Intensive Care Unit, were called to Nelson this afternoon to transport the man.

"We understand that the man was injured by an explosion at his Fish and Chip shop earlier today" says Life Flight Operations Manager Dave Greenberg.

The 67 year old Nelson man is suffering facial, arm and leg burns and is being transported to the Hutt Hospital Burn Unit for further treatment.

Life Flight provides air rescue services to the Greater Wellington Region, Wairarapa, Kapiti and Marlborough via the Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter and air ambulance services nationally via the Life Flight Air Ambulance service.

In the 12 months ending March 31 2009 ---- 79 Nelson Hospital patients were transported aboard the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and 205 were transported aboard the Life Flight Air Ambulance service.
