Civil Defence Volunteers Praised
Napier Civil Defence Manager, Angela Reade, is praising the work of Napier Civil Defence volunteers who have worked around the clock to ensure the welfare of evacuees has been met.
When the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated at Napier Civil Defence at 2.30pm yesterday the volunteers responded immediately. They are now spread between the Welfare Centre at Napier Intermediate School and the Communications Centre at the EOC.
The volunteers are fully trained in emergency management and Angela says she is proud of with the way they are putting their skills into practice.
“They have organised their own shift changes and their employers have been very understanding in releasing them from their day-to-day jobs,” Angela says. “They are doing all this in their own time and are not paid. Their dedication is to be praised and we cannot express how grateful we are to have their help.”
