Any Old Curtains? Call Curtain Bank

June 21, 2009

Any Old Curtains? Call Curtain Bank…

A new community initiative will soon launch in Hawke’s Bay.

Curtain Bank Hawke’s Bay will receive donations of used curtains and a team of volunteers will rejuvenate them and then distribute them free to families in need. The aim of Curtain Bank Hawke’s Bay is to keep homes and families warmer in winter months and reduce energy wastage and the amount of money spent on heating.

Janice Zachan, the local Curtain Bank coordinator is excited to see this project getting off the ground and has found the initiative quick to gather supporters.

“We are delighted to be introducing this scheme to Hawke’s Bay. It has been incredibly successful in a number of areas around New Zealand including Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Christchurch.

With premises, supporters and volunteers all lined up Curtain Bank is looking for curtain donations so when they open they hit the ground running. The launch date is expected to be less than a month away.

“We now urgently need donations – curtains, tracks, lining, tapes or even cash to help the service running will be welcome. Curtains will be rejuvenated ready to be fitted into recipients’ homes. We want to help as many families as possible so we welcome all donations - big and small.”

Everyone can donate, from homeowners replacing their old curtains to commercial premises that are undergoing refurbishment. Donating curtains to the Curtain Bank is a way of getting rid of old curtains which are no longer wanted as well as doing something positive for the community.

“While we have already accomplished a huge amount we will always welcome volunteers wishing to help out with measuring and repairing curtains.” says Janice, a volunteer herself.
