NZL Group moving one step closer to Sulphur Point Container Terminal Re-establishment
NZL advised today that its subsidiary, Sulphur Point Container Terminal Limited, ('SPCT') has submitted details of its proposed terminal operation to Port of Tauranga Limited ('PTL'). As previously announced, NZL has exercised its right to re-establish a full service container terminal at Sulphur Point, Port of Tauranga. NZL operated a container terminal at Sulphur Point prior to 2004.
The submission to PTL of a re-establishment plan (including a six step timetable for implementation) takes SPCT one step closer to making the terminal a reality.
Ken Harris (NZL director) speaking on behalf of NZL and SPCT, stated that NZL is excited for port users and the export community and expects SPCT will play a key role in providing competitive options for shipping companies and shippers visiting Tauranga.
Mr Harris stated; " Tauranga's reputation has been built by the hard work and efficiency of competing companies and the re-establishment of the NZL terminal will be good for all. NZL believes that competition creates the best result for the community and exporters in particular. With this in mind, NZL is gearing up to deliver a competitive cost effective service. NZL is well placed to offer freight solutions and port services to shipping companies over the coming months, that will create new levels of value, designed to assist shippers and shipping companies during these tough economic times."
NZL went on to say that under the plan the re-established Sulphur Point terminal would be operational by early next year. NZL is looking forward to engaging with PTL in a collaborative manner to make sure this timetable is achievable.
