The Day the Library Went Psycho

Date: 7 August 2009

The Day the Library Went Psycho

One of Australia’s funniest children’s writers, Andy Griffiths, is getting ready to cross the Tasman to help celebrate the very special 150th birthday of the Christchurch City Libraries.

With over four million books sold worldwide, Andy Griffiths has a highly successful set of credentials including appearing on the New York Times bestseller lists, winner of over 40 Australian children’s choice awards and his book Just Shocking! being the first to win all six children’s choice awards in one year, in 2008.

His constant practical jokes make him a huge hit with young male readers, with books such as The Bad Book, The Just Series and The Schooling Around Series.

Christchurch City Libraries are delighted to include the popular children’s author in their birthday celebrations this month. Andy will perform three sessions of The Day the Library Went Psycho at Christchurch Town Hall next week, in which audiences can expect lots of laughs and inspiration.

“Our birthday month is all about celebrating 150 years of public libraries in Christchurch and looking back over the years to see how far we’ve come" says Carolyn Robertson, Libraries and Information Unit Manager.

"While it’s important to keep looking forward, it’s equally important not to forget where we’ve come from and to cherish the importance of simply reading a good book. Andy Griffiths is a great advocate for the importance of reading for children, as well as for adults. He reminds us all that learning can be fun!
