NZTA urging New Zealanders to get
involved in road safety discussion
The NZ Transport Agency is urging people to get involved in discussions on how to improve safety on New Zealand roads over the next decade.
Earlier today Transport Minister Steven Joyce launched the Safer Journeys discussion document, which seeks public feedback to help government develop a strategy for improving road safety in New Zealand to 2020.
The Safer Journeys document outlines key road safety issues, and proposed options for addressing them. The document and information on how to make submissions are available on www.saferjourneys.govt.nz.
NZTA Chief Executive Geoff Dangerfield encouraged people to look at the proposals and make their views known.
“The tragic consequences of crashes on our roads are felt in every part of society and in every corner of New Zealand. We all have a stake in making our roads safer, and it’s important that the government hears the views of as many people as possible as part of the development of the Safer Journeys strategy.”
The Ministry of Transport will be gathering public submissions on Safer Journeys from now until Friday 2 October 2009. The comments and views the Ministry receives will be used to develop the final Safer Journeys strategy, to be released in December 2009.
