More Schools To Get Kids Covered With Bus Shelter Programme

The Totalspan Undercover Kids Bus Shelter Programme has announced another 71 shelters will be erected over the coming months on rural school bus routes.

Leon Skylakis from Totalspan says he’s thrilled to be involved in such a worthwhile programme for our children.

“The programme continues to be extremely well received by the rural community and we continue to get many inquiries about the bus shelters,” he says.

“The safety of our children is paramount, so our company is committed to the continued support of the Undercover Kids Bus Shelter Programme. Therefore I am delighted to be able to announce another 71 shelters will be erected.”

Totalspan is New Zealand’s leading supplier of steel buildings in the rural, commercial and residential markets. It is part of Spanbild New Zealand Ltd, which has been operating in this country for more than 30 years.

Totalspan established a charitable trust to manage a major programme to protect children waiting for buses on rural school routes. The Undercover Kids Bus Shelter Programme is a nationwide initiative and a long-term programme which resulted in 120 bus shelters being allocated last year, the programme’s first year of operation.

Leon Skylakis says the applications received this year have again been of an extremely high standard.

“We received more than 100 applications in the first round of applications this year and we were only going to allocate 50 bus shelters in this round. But due to the quality and need identified in the applications, we have decided to actually allocate an additional 21 bus shelters. That will bring the first round of 2009 applications to 71 bus shelters,” he says.

Leon Skylakis says the Totalspan Undercover Kids Programme wouldn’t be possible without the support of a number of people and organisations.

“We are very grateful to the support of suppliers, local communities, councils, local government and government bodies. We have all worked together to provide this programme which is needed in the rural community.”

The Totalspan charitable trust is aiming to provide additional shelters in the second round of applications in 2009 and to keep increasing the number supplied in the following years.

“Our company has a significant presence in the rural community, so the Undercover Kids Bus Shelter Programme is our way of saying thank you to the community that supports us,” Leon Skylakis says.
