Airport Plan Not Needed

Airport Plan Not Needed

Press-release from the City is Ours

The Airport plan is another glossy prospect with bells and whistles we actually don't need but with Tourism on both the governments and Wellington City Councils agenda's it is bound to land in our laps regardless because of the "heads on pillows" component.

A  substantial grant recently to Positively Wellington Tourism to attract tourists from Australia to come and visit suggests WCC is subsidizing to increase the carbon footprint the Aussie visitor makes when flying across the ditch should they decide to come.

Anyone, including Ms Wade-Brown the teamleader for the WCC Environment Port-folio, wanting to hold Airport and related emissions is invited to Save Manners Mall a public space in the heart of the city destined for a private two way Airport bus-lane, and a key component as part of the Airport plan (see glossy brochure). This also with the Wellington Regional Council's plans to hold emissions to 2001 levels by 2016 in mind, as last year 50 people died in the Wellington Region as a result of emissions causing resperatory ilness or cardio-vascular disease according to the health stats.

Alternative Airport Route: Still under-utilized, the scenic route should be destined to accommodate Airport traffic (buses and taxis) and be considered more seriously by council, sooner rather then later, as a result of the breach of the International Emission Standards in Mount Victoria Tunnel with pedestrians and cyclists in mind.

Tourists prefer to take the scenic route for a more memorable way to enter and leave this our wonderful City.

The City is Ours suggests a trail of 3-6 months and believes this will also go a long way towards reducing emissions to acceptable levels in line with International Standards in the Mount Victoria tunnel all in time for the onslaught of the World Rugby Cup in 2011. Go Wellington.
