Hawke’s Bay Magpies Sideline Medics in the Pink!

Hawke’s Bay Magpies Sideline Medics in the Pink!

The Hawke’s Bay Magpies Medics, Gary Sye & Dr Ian Taylor, will be donning hot pink and black KooGa jerseys in support of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) at this weekend’s Otago vs Hawke’s Bay game at McLean Park, Napier.

This great fundraising initiative comes on the back of Hastings City Marketing’s success at turning Hastings Hot Pink to raise awareness for breast cancer. Fundraising efforts culminated with Hot Pink, a charity cocktail party held on 11th September 2009 at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House. Hot Pink saw over 330 guests enjoy iconic Hawke’s Bay wines and world class entertainment while raising money for The NZBCF.

Neil Weber, Hawke's Bay Magpies Air New Zealand Cup Manager and Guy McPhail, Director of KooGa New Zealand, say that they are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause in such a different and visible way.

“Both HBRFU and KooGa New Zealand really wanted to be involved in the fundraising efforts. Pink headgear has been done so we decided to go with something uniquely Hawke’s Bay - the classic black and white striped Magpie’s jersey with a hot pink spin!” says Guy.

Weldwell and Red Steel, who are usually featured on the Hawke’s Bay Magpies medic’s and water carriers jerseys, have happily agreed to bypass their commercial right for this game in support of breast cancer.

Following the game the two jerseys will be signed by the whole Hawke’s Bay Magpies team and auctioned off on Trade Me. Proceeds from the auction will benefit The NZBCF’s programmes and initiatives.

Last year was the first time in 32 years that Hawke's Bay had beaten Otago so competition will be hot!

Visit www.hastingscity.co.nz for more details on the auction or head straight to Trade Me to place your bid for the Hot Pink Magpie Jersey.
