Spring Cleaning Car Nets Auckland Family $50,000

An Auckland family gave their car a spring clean last week and netted themselves $50,000 on Instant Kiwi’s $3 Magic Cube ticket.

The father of the family, who wishes to remain anonymous, had bought the Instant Kiwi ticket as a small gift for his wife three weeks ago at Glen Innes Dairy and Lotto but had put it in the glove box and forgotten about it.

Last Saturday, the family decided to clean out the car and give it a spring clean and they found the ticket. That evening, the father set off to a friend’s wedding while his wife decided to stay home and look after their five children.

“About 10 minutes after my husband left I scratched the Magic Cube ticket and I saw that I needed one number to win the $50,000,” says the wife.

“I saw the number come up but I didn’t quite believe it and kept checking the instructions on the back of the ticket to make sure I had really won,” she adds.

“I rang my husband and told him to come back as it was an emergency so he turned round and we all went up to Eastridge Lotto to check the ticket.”

“My husband was so excited in the store that some customers wondered what was going on and we had to ‘sshhhh’ him down,” she adds.

The family are considering using the winnings as a deposit on their first home and their five girls have already written little lists of ‘treats’ they’d like mum and dad to buy them.

There is one top prize remaining on the $3 Magic Cube ticket.

Instant Kiwi celebrates its 20th Birthday this week and since its launch in September 1989, New Zealanders have won over one billion in prizes and there have been more than 303 million winners.

Instant Kiwi’s total sales from September 1989 to September 2009 are over $2.3 billion.
