Public invited to sign condolence book for Sir Howard
at Civic Centre
ROTORUA 24.09.09: Rotorua District Council has set up a condolence book in the council Civic Centre (Haupapa St) to acknowledge the passing of Sir Howard Morrison this morning, and Mayor Kevin Winters is inviting Rotorua residents to call in and sign the book as their personal tributes to Sir Howard.
Mayor Winters said that because Sir Howard touched so many lives over many, many years, it was important for the council to provide an opportunity for local people to leave personal messages and to express their memories of him.
"While he is a national and international icon, in Rotorua he also is a much loved and highly respected local hometown figure.
“At a later date I will personally ensure that the condolence book is presented to the Morrison family as a way of showing how much this great New Zealander meant to so many people here in Rotorua.”
The condolence book will remain available to the public in the RDC Civic Centre in Haupapa St until the end of next week (Friday 2 October).
As a further tribute to Sir Howard, the district council is also flying flags at half mast at the Civic Centre building tomorrow (Friday 25 September), and again on Tuesday, the day of Sir Howard’s funeral.
