Dunedin Community Pacific Tsunami Fundraising Concert
Over the past week meetings have been held and conversations have been had. The wider Dunedin community, elders in the Pacific community and our city leaders have been consulted and plans have been made to hold a Dunedin Community Pacific Tsunami Concert on Tuesday October 13th in the Dunedin Town Hall.
Mayor Peter Chin would like to pack out the Town Hall and is hoping the line up of some top class performances will get people along and to come together as a community in solidarity and support of the Samoan and Tongan communities, families and friends who have been devastated by the Tsunami that hit their homelands last week.
The line up will feature performances by: Mayor Peter Chin, St Kilda Brass Band, Gladys Hope, Delgirl, 'Koile, Sunny Side Up, Dunedin RSA Choir, Waiata, Cruscendo, Highland Dancers, Greg MacLeod, Half Kutz, The University Sextet , Te Huinga Rangatahi o Nga Hau e Wha, Kia Orana Performing Arts, Dunedin Tongan Community and a combined performance from the Dunedin Samoan communities.
Entry to the Dunedin Community Pacific Tsunami Concert is by donation. A team of collectors will be on hand to take more donations throughout the night as well as having a few goodies to giveaway including a signed Warriors jersey by former Kiwi Rugby League and Warriors Captain Ruben Wiki who is scheduled to meet with the Mayor on Monday 12 October to gift a signed warriors Jersey that will be raffled off on the night. All proceeds from the concert will be deposited into the “Dunedin Community Pacific Tsunami Response Fund” established by the Dunedin Council of Social Services.
Special thanks and acknowledgement to the following sponsors for making this event possible; the Otago Community Trust, BNZ Dunedin, Dunedin Council of Social Services, University of Otago, Colortronics, Up Front Security, The Event Production Company, Dunedin Town Hall, MoreFM and the Dunedin City Council.
