NZFMC Seeks Assistance for Missing Student

PRESS RELEASE

15 October 2009

New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils is urging community for information on missing Auckland student, Srikant Rayadurgam The New Zealand Federation of Multicultural Councils (NZFMC) are urging its members and the wider ethnic community to come forward with any information or assistance they can provide in locating Auckland student, Srikant Rayadurgam, missing since 1 October.

Working closely with police, the NZMFC is appealing through its greater Auckland networks to help and support the families affected. It applauds the efforts of friends and students who have been handing out posters and flyers on the streets to date.

Prem Singh, NZFMC President, says that, “whilst there have been two recent cases of missing persons at the same time, we have been reassured by police that it is concentrating all its efforts and available resources to find Srikant Rayadurgam.” NZFMC is working with police to organise meetings with Indian and Asian communities in Auckland to listen and address issues of safety and security. It believes New Zealand is a safe country for students and immigrants.

Through the memorandum of understanding (MOU) recently signed with police, the NZFMC is working on the Police Ethnic Strategy for support and handling of law and order.
