“Eating The Dog” Confirmed For Hawkins Theatre Show

Leading New Zealand comic Te Radar brings his latest offering, Eating the Dog, to Papakura’s Hawkins Theatre for one night only on November 6.

The show takes a satirical look at the unsung heroes of New Zealand - that eclectic bunch of individuals all too often omitted from the pages of the history books.

Te Radar says Eating the Dog is an upfront look at the history of New Zealand. It focuses on his heroes, people of both Maori and Pakeha descent, the bumblers and the “near-do-wells”, those people who personify the archetypal “she’ll be right” spirit that epitomises Aotearoa.

“These stories celebrate people of courage and vision. While they may not have succeeded, their stories are no less powerful for it. I think we live in an age where we not only cut down those who dare to succeed, but we don’t celebrate the power of trying and failing. The show is a celebration,” he said.

Part educational history, part installation art, Eating the Dog is a hilarious and irreverent look at those Kiwi blokes who have shown us that to have successes it is also necessary to fail. The ever-entrepreneurial New Zealanders who gave it a darn good go finally have their champion in Te Radar.

Te Radar, also known as Andrew Lumsden, won a 2009 FRED AWARD for Achievement in Comedy, won Best Local Show 2009 NZ International Comedy Show and Best Comedy Dunedin Fringe Festival 2009.

Hawkins Theatre Manager Graeme Bennett calls the show “intelligently hilarious”.

“At the inaugural Schools Showcase Radar had the audience in raptures; quite literally hanging on his every word. Eating the Dog is certainly one of the most anticipated shows of the year.
