Telecom Melbourne Cup Day kicks off the summer season of racing

On Tuesday 3rd November not one but two nations will stop to watch and celebrate the running of the greatest 3200m race in the world, the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

For those unable to be on-course at Flemington to watch the big race, Ellerslie is undoubtedly the place to be on the first Tuesday of November.

Auckland Racing Club will create its own piece of thoroughbred racing magic, with ten exciting on-course races, including the Nicolas Feuillatte Stakes, the Group III feature race worth $70,000. The race marks a new relationship between Ellerslie and France’s biggest selling champagne, Nicolas Feuillatte, and is sure to set the mood for a sensational season of racing.

“The Auckland Racing Club is proud to host an event that reflects the prestige and style associated with Melbourne Cup Day whilst delivering an experience unique to Ellerslie,” says Auckland Racing Club CEO Chris Weaver. “Telecom Melbourne Cup Day sets the tone for the exciting summer season of racing ahead for Ellerslie. With eight fantastic feature racedays across 12 weeks, culminating in the highly anticipated Auckland Cup Week, there is so much to look forward to.”

A live simulcast at 5pm will transport Ellerslie punters to Flemington to watch the running of the Emirates Melbourne Cup. The fun and revelry will continue at Ellerslie with races running until 7pm, followed by the infamous Birdcage Bash in Cuvée ‘til late!

On-course, Auckland Racing Club will be supporting Mercy Hospice with volunteers collecting for their annual appeal at the main entrance gates to Ellerslie.

Gates open at 10.30am on Tuesday 3rd November with the first race at Ellerslie starting at 12pm.
