Lake Tekapo i-SITE Visitor Centre to open tomorrow

Lake Tekapo i-SITE Visitor Centre to open tomorrow

Visitors to Lake Tekapo will be greeted with an official 100% Kiwi welcome from tomorrow (Tuesday 1 November) when New Zealand’s newest i-SITE opens at the Lake Tekapo i-SITE Visitor Centre.

Destination Mt Cook Mackenzie General Manager Philip Brownie believes it will be a huge asset to both the region and its visitors.

“The i-SITE brand is well recognised by international and domestic visitors throughout New Zealand. The Lake Tekapo i-SITE Visitor Centre will give us the opportunity to promote the region’s activities, attractions and accommodation in a way that hasn’t been experienced here before,” he says.

The new i-SITE will provide an information service for Tekapo and the Mackenzie District and take bookings for accommodation, attractions, activities and transport as well as selling quality souvenirs which predominately reflect a connection to Mackenzie and the High Country.

Pete Maxwell, Chairperson of the Tekapo Community Board, says the i-SITE will add further value to the region.

“Lake Tekapo is in a fortunate position – there’s strong growth in the activity and accommodation sector and providers have already benefited from Destination Mt Cook Mackenzie’s co-ordinated approach to marketing campaigns, media and trade famils.

“We’re aiming to provide further economic growth for our businesses by increasing the length of visitor stays in Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie District. The new i-SITE Visitor Centre will be a great promotional tool which will allow us to talk directly to visitors and highlight all of the great reasons for them to stay,” says

The i-SITE is located beside the Godley Hotel, and will be open 364 days a year, with extended hours into the early evening during the peak summer months.

Residents are encouraged to drop in and check out the new i-SITE and its team - locals Nicola Thomson and Daphne Chesser and soon-to-be-local Christine Mold. The three have a wealth of tourism industry experience and knowledge, along with a shared passion for all things Tekapo and Mackenzie.

“We really appreciate the support we’ve received from locals, businesses, and community,“ says Mr Brownie. “It’s great to know the community we’re serving is right behind us.”
