Mayor Offers Condolences To Taxi Driver’s Family

Mayor Offers Condolences To Slain Taxi Driver’s Family

Auckland City Mayor John Banks has offered his deepest sympathies to the family of taxi driver Hiren Mohini, 39, who was tragically taken in the early hours of yesterday morning.

“This must be an extremely hard time for the family of Hiren Mohini, especially his wife, mother and two young daughters. I offer my sincerest condolences and strongest support to them, for the loss of a beloved father, husband and son.

“That this young father, providing for his family can be killed simply doing his job is terrible.”

Mayor Banks says his thoughts are also with the colleagues of Mr Mohini, who Banks says provide a much needed service.

“Taxi drivers, like shop owners must be able to feel safe when offering a community service. It is not good enough that they should go to work in fear.”

Mayor Banks has spoken to the Prime Minister and the Police and will be kept informed of progress in relation to the inquiry.
