Napier Taupo road re-opened
The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that it has re-opened State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo following an overnight closure caused by extensive flooding and slips.
NZTA Napier State Highways Manager Mark Kinvig says the highway was severely affected by heavy rain, flooding and a number of slips, resulting in deteriorating driving conditions. The highway was closed overnight in the interests of the safety of motorists.
“Our contractors have been on the scene all night and all morning to clear slips and debris from the road, and we’d like to thank them for their hard work.”
“We’d also like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this closure.”
The NZTA urges motorists to exercise extreme care and drive to the conditions.
