Bid Red for New Zealand Red Cross From 1 March
New Zealand Red Cross is asking people to bid on fabulous red items on Trade Me from 1 - 10 March to raise funds for its Annual Appeal.
Among the red goodies, worth more than $10,000, are a ruby necklace, 12 months free parking at any Wilson carpark, Helly Hansen jackets, a mountain biking adventure in the Red Woods, three armfuls of red roses, a red Zambesi dress, a red Nokia from Vodafone and a weekend’s use of a red Mini Cooper convertible.
Fashion accessories designer Tamsin Cooper, who donated an embroidered red overnight bag and accessories worth $700, says the online auction is a way for people to show they care.
“I know Kiwis will have fun bidding for the many fantastic items that are up for grabs so we can help make the Red Cross Annual Appeal a huge success,” says Ms Cooper, whose bags, scarves and jewellery are hand-embroidered ethically in Viet Nam.
“I believe everyone can make a difference, starting at home. Red Cross works not only in major emergencies but also on a practical level in our communities every day. The depth of their involvement is far-reaching. Red Cross gives hope to the people who need it most.”
New Zealand Red Cross Chief Executive John Ware says, “Right now, the needs at home and around the world are huge. So New Zealand Red Cross is grateful for the donation of so many valuable red items for the auction, and the support of Trade Me. Now we need Kiwis to log on and start bidding.”
Money raised will be used to fund a wide range of New Zealand Red Cross projects and activities including the Breakfasts in Schools programme that offers more than 1600 hungry Kiwi kids a healthy breakfast each morning, sending Kiwi aid workers overseas, developing New Zealand Red Cross’ emergency response capacity and buying emergency relief supplies.
In addition to bidding on the Trade Me auction from 1 March, people can call 0900 RED CROSS (0900 733 27) to make a $20 donation, make a secure credit card donation at www.redcross.org.nz or donate to street collectors during appeal week (1 - 7 March).
