Beach Road Improvements to Start April 7

Beach Road Improvements to Start April 7

Papakura District Council contractors will start road improvement work in the area of Beach Road at the intersections of Elliot Street and Chichester Drive on April 7.

The area to be worked on extends from 100 metres east of the Beach Road/Elliot Street/Chichester Drive intersection through to the south-bound motorway on/offramp.

Council staff say the work has to be completed in the current road sealing season before the cold, wet weather of early winter sets in. The improvements must be completed this year ahead of the planned major upgrade of the Papakura motorway interchange.

Because of the nature of the work and the machinery to be used, council staff say noise and vibration will be unavoidable from time to time. Much of the work will be done during the day, but in order to complete the project as quickly as possible contractors will also work at night when necessary.

At times during the project, contractors will need to close sections of the Elliot Street-Beach Road-Chichester Drive intersections to complete excavation, road-building and sealing work. Closures will be advised beforehand by signs, and detours will direct traffic around the closure.

Contractors will maintain access to all residential properties in the work area and will work closely with businesses in the work area including the Beach Road Veterinary Clinic, Colonial Motel and XL Preschool centre on Beach Road to ensure any disruption is minimised. All these businesses have confirmed they will remain open for business throughout the work period.

The project plan was signed off by councillors at last week’s council meeting, and staff have since been finalising traffic management for the project and making contact with residents and businesses in the work area. The work is expected to be complete by May 4.
