Hang out with some fierce Aussies this ANZAC Day

MEDIA RELEASE

Hang out with some fierce Aussies this
ANZAC Day at Butterfly Creek!

Two very special Australians, saltwater crocodiles Scar and Goldie, arrived a year ago this week at Butterfly Creek in Auckland. To mark the occasion we are throwing a party for our Aussie mates on Sunday 25 April, ANZAC Day.

A lot has happened in a year for these magnificent animals. After a period of settling in, they have definitely ‘warmed up’ to their new kiwi home and now visitors enjoy seeing them shoot out of the water up to 2m to grab meat from a pole, or even from the hand of our head keeper, Brian Copeland. They have also got bigger over the last year and will now weigh close to half a tonne each!

“The crocs are extremely active now and very territorial” says Brian, “they definitely are keeping us on our toes at the public encounters!”

To celebrate the anniversary of their arrival we’ll be throwing some snags on the barbie and serving up yummy croc themed treats from the Billabong Tuck Shop. There will be free face-painting for the kids between 11am and 3pm and two wicked keeper encounters with the crocs at 11am and 2pm. As an extra special bonus, rides on our train, the Tip Top Red Admiral Express, will be free all day for any visitors to the Creek.

And what croc party would be complete without a big croc cake? We are running a special competition to find a lucky Croc Club member to come and cut the cake for the boys. The winner will also get to meet head croc keeper, Brian Copeland and get the best seat in the house for the 2pm Croc Encounter.
