Rugby fans urged to pre-purchase New Zealand Maori v Ireland match tickets to avoid delays

Rotorua 15.06.10:  With Rotorua expecting one of its largest ever rugby crowds on Friday night for the historic New Zealand Maori versus Ireland match, fans are being urged to buy tickets early to avoid disappointment or delays at the gate.

The match at the Rotorua International Stadium is part of the Sealord New Zealand Maori Centenary Series and official celebrations to commemorate a century of Maori rugby.

Events & Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod said ticket sales were very strong and the grandstand had been fully sold out for some time.

“We are urging spectators to arrive well ahead of the match starting time and to buy tickets early.

“Many fans will be travelling to Rotorua for the game from other areas in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato and being a week night many will be coming to the stadium straight after work and arriving close to game time

“People who get to the stadium early should be able to avoid getting caught up in traffic congestion and will find parking much easier. If you've also pre-purchased your tickets you'll get into the venue much quicker than if you have to queue to buy tickets on the night.

Mr McLeod said gates will open at 5.30pm ahead of  the 7.30 kick-off and there will be extensive pre match entertainment, including cultural and music entertainment and big screen presentations featuring special moments in the rich history of Aotearoa Maori Rugby.

Anthem singers on the night are Chase Douglas for the New Zealand anthem and Anna Hawkins for the Irish anthem.

Tickets are available from Ticket Direct on 0800 4 ticket, online from www.ticketdirect.co.nz, or from the Convention Centre in Rotorua and Baycourt Theatre in Tauranga.
