New Zealand Red Cross thanks its thousands of volunteers
During National Volunteer Awareness Week next week (20-26 June), New Zealand Red Cross thanks its thousands of volunteers.
“Right across New Zealand, thousands of volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities including delivering Meals on Wheels, serving Breakfasts in Schools, working in Red Cross shops and, in emergency management teams, helping people when disaster strikes,” says New Zealand Red Cross Chief Executive John R. Ware.
“During this special week it’s great to be able to say a big thank you to the volunteers who give us their most precious resource – their time – to make a difference in their community, help people in need, meet new people and learn new skills. Every year around New Zealand, volunteers enable Red Cross to deliver 750,000 hot meals, serve more than 213,000 breakfasts to hungry children and help people in need in New Zealand and overseas.”
“For many Kiwis, volunteering for New Zealand Red Cross runs in the family. A traditional of caring is passed down, with family members volunteering using their skills and time in a wide range of programmes according to their schedules and interests,” says Mr Ware, who will be rolling up his sleeves and joining the volunteers next week by working in a Red Cross shop.
“Red Cross volunteers are the unsung heroes of community work in New Zealand. This is their week.”
