Generous Kiwis Give $1.45m To Rescue Choppers
Despite Tough Times, Generous Kiwis Still Give $1.45m To Rescue Choppers
Despite economically challenging times, New Zealanders have once again shown support for the country’s rescue helicopter services, raising a record $1.45 million during this year’s Westpac Chopper Appeal. Last year $1.13 million was raised.
Mark Graham, Westpac National Sponsorship Manager says the appeal was a huge success and, with the bank covering campaign costs, 100% of the funds raised will be distributed to the 16 rescue helicopter trusts nationwide.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of New Zealanders, particularly in these tough times,” says Mr Graham.
“The current economic climate is challenging for many individuals and families, yet thousands of Kiwis have dug deep this year to show their support – and we’d like to extend our thanks to them.”
Mr Graham adds: “These funds will make a vital contribution to the country’s rescue helicopters and enable them to continue to provide this incredible service in their community.”
New Zealand’s rescue helicopters undertook close to 5,000 missions last year; each mission costs thousands of dollars and includes a mix of ambulance and search and rescue work.
