Cruising For A Cause Back In 2010

Taupo’s novel charity event, Cruising for a Cause, is set to return on Saturday 9 October 2010.

Cruising for a Cause was held for the first time in October last year, and raised over $5000 for the Lake Taupo Hospice.

“The event concept is pretty simple,” said Event Founder, Marty Sutherland. “We invite owners of many and varied cars and trucks onto the Tongariro Domain for the day. In return for a gold coin donation, event goers can chose to go for a ride in any vehicle.”

The 2009 event attracted thousands of participants and a diverse line up of vehicles including hot rods, vintage cars, custom cars, trucking rigs and fire trucks. In addition to the ‘Cruising’ vehicles, there were also a wide assortment of vehicles on display in the Show n’ Shine area, and large trucks, earthmovers and the rescue helicopter also on display.

“The support for the event last year was amazing,” said Marty. “We’re now in major planning mode for the 2010 event, and are asking anyone who has a vehicle and would like to participate to let us know.”

Last year’s charity was the Lake Taupo Hospice, and this year the Cruising for a Cause organisers would like other charities to nominate themselves as a potential beneficiary.

“Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, and the volunteer organisers and workers, we are able to give 100% of the proceeds to our chosen charity,” said Event Committee Member, Shawn Vennell. “We’re wanting to use the Cruising event as a major fundraising opportunity for a local charity or group that would seriously benefit from the proceeds. We need groups that can provide us with at least 10 volunteers to work on the day, help us promote the event through their networks, and can show us how they will utilise the Cruising funds to better the wider Taupo community.”
