Stop State Interference

Stop State Interference

Dunedin central candidate Olive McRae is raising the alarm bells regarding state interference into citizens lives.

"In the past few months the Dunedin City Council in conjunction with Dunedin police have been systematically setting up CCTV camera's in the Octagon to be staffed by community volunteers. The installation cost $231,500. not to mention on going operational expense.

Rate payer money for what? To watch us? Our society is being driven by fear pumped out on a daily basis by the media. These constant injections of pure fear mongering about terrorism, and violent crime create a society paralyzed with fear. What do we do when we are fearful? Give away our freedoms to the state. "

"Next year Dunedin's new rubbish trucks will have CCTV camera's looking at each individuals rubbish to assertion if we are putting the correct recyclables in. We need to draw a line between what's really important for the safety of our community, and what's simply giving up our civil liberties to the state. If Im elected to Council, I will be advocating for my community, not dictating to them, and certainly not bloody spying on them to make sure they are doing what their told. I think the current Council regard their jobs as fascist dictating parents, as opposed to advocates of the people. Things will certainly be different if Im elected."
