Installation Of New Dean

Installation Of New Dean

The Reverend Jo Kelly-Moore will be installed as the new Anglican Dean of Auckland in a service tomorrow (Wednesday August 25th) at 7pm in Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell.

The service will begin with the Rev’d Kelly-Moore being walked into the Cathedral by the parishioners of St Aidan’s Anglican Church in Remuera, where she has been Vicar. The Cathedral is the mother Church for the Diocese of Auckland. The Diocese stretches from Cape Reinga in the north, to Coromandel in the east. She will be welcomed by clergy and lay people from throughout the Diocese, as well as Deans from other Cathedrals in New Zealand.

The Rev’d Kelly-Moore says the Cathedral is a voice in the city on issues and also a place of quiet. “Holy Trinity Cathedral is a place in which we minister to people through worship; it is a place of history and a place of community events. We are also able to speak out on issues such as alcohol that directly impinge on the daily life of our city,” says the Rev’d Kelly-Moore.

One of the first tasks for the new Dean will be to host the Diocesan Synod that gathers at the Cathedral from Thursday Sept 2, (similar to a parliament for the diocese). At the Synod the new Dean will present a motion for the Diocese to actively support the Alcohol Action New Zealand 5+ proposal to part of the current debate on access to alcohol.

The Rev’d Kelly-Moore, age 42, was born in Wellington and began her working life in the legal profession as a solicitor before gaining a Bachelor of Divinity. She will be the 9th Dean of Auckland and the first woman to hold the position.
