North Now Says It’s Time To Break With The Past
5 September 2010: Aucklanders have one chance to rid the North Shore and the region of the factional bickering that has held up development and cost the ratepayers dearly, according to the independent North Now ticket.
North Now’s Albany ward candidate, Graeme Hunt, said a high turnout in the local body elections –– not a feature of North Shore/North Harbour politics –– would ensure that old-guard councillors would not be re-elected.
“There are excellent people standing who have served local government in the past, including North Now’s North Shore ward candidate, Christine Rankin, but there are equally those whose time has past and who should retire gracefully,” he said.
“We want people to vote, and in large numbers, and we look forward to new people being elected who have the will and commitment to make the super city work.
“Whether we like it or not, the super city is with us. It is an opportunity for Auckland to speak with a united voice and, if the local boards work well, a chance for communities to have a real say in the new governance structure and in the running of the region.
“Our advice is simple: support your local ticket and avoid the windbags, the bickerers and grandstanders of old.”
• North Now is an independent NorthShore/North Harbour ticket standing candidates for the Auckland Council, local boards and the Waitemata District Health Board.
